Inventions / living in the United States (1983), a three-dimensional installation by Anwar, is exhibited not in a museum, but on a porch of the National Museum of Dentistry in Pittsburg. The piece was commissioned in 1980 by the museum's board to commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of Columbus's discovery of the Americas. Viewed from a distance through a telephoto lens, the iron sculptures Inventions consist of a series of disparate items: one a large engraved plate with a soft malachite coating; another a smartphone flashlight; another a hand wringer and another a thumb switch; another and large household Davenport.
In 1984 the government of the United Arab Emirates awarded Anwar work on the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which he began in 1998. The structure had initially been earmarked for construction on the site of the former U.S. Embassy in the Israeli capital, but following the withdrawal of American forces from the Middle East there was no longer sufficient support for the project.
Released at the end of 2013, the album Touch of Soul, which features 13 of 18 pieces featured in the film Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, is Anwar's first recording to be made available outside of North America. The songs are by Hal B. Wallis, Percy Faith, Sigmund Romberg, Ernest Tubb, George & Ira Gershwin, and the Helm Song.
Featured in many regional films and on many regional album covers for the last 25 years has been Anwar's iconic classic recording Pagalpan (set). Balancing the Indian classical genre with his own modern sensibilities, Anwar precisely captures the essence of Indian classical music in a new way. The ethnic rhythms of Indian classical music have always been appealing to many people. The musical match in his style explains it all for those who wish to listen to this genre. d2c66b5586
